Craig Williams, Ellen Van Der Hoeven, and Barry Truter are passionate about the blues, especially the down-home country blues of the rural South. They are known as The Jook Joint Jokers and they are carving out a niche in the Vancouver acoustic blues scene with their interpretations of the Piedmont and Delta styles of Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Blake, Libba Cotton, Robert Johnson, Skip James, Rev. Gary Davis and others. But they will also surprise with a Bessie Smith, Muddy Waters, Big Bill Broonzy or Memphis Minnie tune, mingled with a few originals in the genre.
Playing a combination of six string guitar, resonator, slide, mandolin, and blues harp, The Jook Joint Jokers will take you on a musical journey through the blues of a turbulent age – from the era of prohibition and the roaring Twenties, through the misery of the Great Depression, to the post-war days of the Chicago blues.
The Jook Joint Jokers infuse their sets with passion and humour. They’ll be coming to a juke joint near you – delivering a night of feels-so-bad-it-feels-good kinda songs. Don’t miss ‘em!
